Pike County Court Dockets Defined
A docket is the court's ordered record of settings and case events. In Pike County, the term can mean a daily calendar of matters set before a judge or the case action summary within one file. A calendar answers who is scheduled, when the setting occurs, and which case is involved. The case action summary follows filings, service, hearings, rulings, financial entries, and disposition over time. Neither form guarantees access to every filed motion, exhibit, image, or order.
Circuit and District Court dockets are kept through the Pike County Circuit Clerk and Alabama's statewide trial court system. Circuit Court handles higher-level matters and appeals from some lower courts. District Court covers limited civil cases, small claims, misdemeanors outside Troy and Brundidge city limits, early felony stages, and state or county traffic matters. Troy Municipal Court keeps a separate city calendar for municipal ordinances, city traffic citations, and municipal warrants.
The official Pike County circuit judges page identifies the Twelfth Judicial Circuit bench connected with local docket settings.
Judge assignments and court level help a searcher interpret where a listed Pike County docket event belongs.
Find Pike County Dockets Online
The free Pike County docket search is labeled County 58. It presents setting-date choices and an optional Last Name box. Leaving the surname blank returns the full docket for the selected date. The visible dates change with the calendar, so use the options shown on the live screen. The portal warns that some cases may not appear and directs users to the clerk when in doubt.
- Open the County 58 docket page and review the offered setting dates.
- Select the date that matches the expected hearing or court appearance.
- Enter a last name to narrow the list, or leave the field blank for the full date docket.
- Match the party name and case information, then note the court level and setting.
- Call the Circuit Clerk if the case is missing or the online entry conflicts with a notice.
A docket search is best for dates, not a full legal review. For paid case details, Alacourt ACCESS supports name and case-number searches and provides court actions, status, parties, financial history, settings, and the case action summary. Each name or case-number search costs $9.99. Document images carry a separate charge. The broader Pike County court records path explains full case reports and copy channels.
The District Court bench is shown on the official district judges source.
District settings can include civil, small claims, misdemeanor, preliminary felony, and traffic matters.
Pike County Docket Search Fields
The public calendar screen has a small field set. The setting date is required because the page returns a daily docket. Last Name is optional and serves only as a filter. The official text extraction did not expose a separate case-number box or court-type selector on that free page, so those fields should not be expected there.
| Field | Type | Required | Use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Setting Date | Radio or date choice | Yes | Select one of the current visible court dates. |
| Last Name | Text | No | Narrows the date docket; leave blank for the full list. |
| Search | Submit control | Implied | Runs the selected date and optional surname query. |
A returned entry should be read as a scheduling record. Party names identify the case participants. The case or docket number points to the file. A setting date shows a planned event, while the case action summary in a full report can show what was filed or decided. A disposition means the final result or procedural outcome. It should not be inferred from a hearing date alone.
The Pike District Civil procedure page supplies the filing and appeal context behind many civil docket events.
Service, defaults, trials, appeals, garnishments, and executions can each create dated entries in a civil case history.
Pike County Courts and Dockets
Pike County does not place every court record into one calendar. The Circuit Clerk manages Circuit and District proceedings and is the fallback for electronic omissions. Probate Court has a separate office and public-records search for probate and recorded instruments, but the research did not confirm a public probate hearing calendar. Troy Municipal Court is separate and should be contacted for Troy city matters. Brundidge municipal misdemeanors also remain municipal unless tied to a felony or an extraordinary circumstance.
- Circuit Court: higher-level civil, criminal, domestic, and lower-court appeal matters within the Twelfth Judicial Circuit.
- District Court: limited civil, small claims, outside-city misdemeanors, early felony stages, and state or county traffic.
- Probate Court: estates and other probate proceedings through the separate Pike County Probate Office.
- Municipal courts: city ordinances, municipal traffic, and municipal warrant cases.
Small claims is a District Court division for disputes up to $6,000. The official Pike County small claims source explains the forms, informal trial, appeal, and collection steps that can appear as docket entries.
Those events show why a small claims docket may continue after judgment through appeal or collection activity.
Pike Docket vs. Case Record
A Pike County docket is a list, calendar, or event history. A full case record includes the papers behind that history when those documents are public and available. The docket can reveal that a complaint, answer, motion, order, setting, or disposition was entered. The full record may contain the complaint itself, service papers, pleadings, orders, and purchased document images. Restricted or redacted material remains unavailable even when an event label appears.
| Docket | Full Case Record | |
|---|---|---|
| Format | List of entries | Full documents |
| Access | Free County 58 setting search | Paid Alacourt report or clerk request |
| Use | Confirm settings and track progress | Read filed content and obtain copies |
| Limit | Some cases may not appear | Confidential material remains restricted |
Domestic relations offers a clear example. A docket may show filing, service, a setting, and a final decree entry, but it does not provide the full text of all pleadings. The Pike County Domestic Relations source notes that contested divorces are assigned to a judge, served, and not automatically set for a hearing or trial.
That process explains why the absence of a current setting does not mean the domestic case is closed.
Read Pike County Court Dockets
Read each Pike County docket entry in sequence. The filing date marks when a paper or event was entered. Service means formal delivery of court papers. A motion is a written request for court action. A setting date is a planned hearing or trial. Judgment is the court's final decision on a civil claim. Disposition is the result of the case or charge. An appeal moves the matter to a higher court for review.
Do not treat a listed charge as a conviction. A criminal docket can show an arrest-related charge, bond, first appearance, preliminary hearing, grand jury transition, plea, ruling, or sentence at different stages. Felony charges begin in District Court and remain there until grand jury presentation and disposition. Municipal misdemeanors inside Troy or Brundidge generally stay in municipal court. The same person can therefore have entries in more than one court as a matter advances.
For a missing or unclear entry, contact the Pike County Circuit Clerk at 1318 N. Three Notch St., Troy, AL 36081, (334) 566-5113, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Have the case number, party name, court type, and expected date ready. The Pike jury information source also provides context for jury-related court settings.
Jury notices and trial settings should always be verified against the clerk's official instructions rather than a stale calendar copy.
Calendar entries can also reflect civil deadlines. In Pike District Civil, a defendant's answer, a default request, a trial, an appeal, and post-judgment collection may each produce a new dated action. An appeal from a District Civil judgment generally must be taken within 14 calendar days, while an eviction appeal can have a shorter seven-business-day period. Small claims judgments can also be appealed to Circuit Court. These local time limits make the entered judgment date important.
A domestic docket follows a different pattern. An uncontested divorce has a 30-day waiting period before a judge can sign a decree when the paperwork is in order. A contested divorce is assigned to a judge, issued for service, and is not automatically set for a hearing or trial. The lack of a hearing on the current public date list therefore does not prove that the case ended. In criminal matters, a felony may start in District Court and later appear in Circuit Court after grand jury action. Track the court level as well as the party name.
Note: A docket is a live court record, so confirm the setting before travel or a required appearance.
